When an ESSENTIAL upright begins cutting out on its own or stops answering the controls, the electronics are where the trail leads. Part 20881ER is the computer controller fitted to the SEBO ESSENTIAL G4 and the SEBO ESSENTIAL G5, the board that regulates the motor and carries the onboard control logic linking the switchgear to the rest of the machine.
SEBO identifies it as position 154 in the ESSENTIAL G4 / G5 parts diagram, a sheet the two models share. Faults that point this way include a machine running at the wrong speed, one that ignores its switches, one that shuts down at random while the airway, cord and motor all test sound, and one that stays dead with a live supply at the plug. Mechanical faults present differently. A blocked hose, a split cuff or a glazed belt each have their own signature, and none of them come and go the way a failing board does, so work through the airway and the cord first and arrive here by elimination rather than by guesswork. Intermittent behaviour that changes when the machine is warm, or that follows a knock to the body, is the pattern that most often ends at the controller.
Photograph the connector layout before unplugging anything, because several leads land on this board and each has exactly one correct home. Note the routing as well as the positions, since the loom has to sit clear of the motor housing when the shell closes back up, and a lead pinched between two halves of a shell will fail again within weeks. Handle the board by its edges and keep it away from damp, then power up on the bench before reassembling everything, so the diagnosis is confirmed while access is still easy. This is genuine SEBO electronics rather than a rebuilt or generic substitute, so the connector pinout and the control behaviour are what the machine was designed around.
