That side-hinge action matters in tight stairwells, under-cabinet locations, or anywhere a front-swinging door would bump into trim or furniture before the hose could seat. The valve is molded in white to blend with common wall and trim colors.
Inside, the SuperValve is a dual-voltage valve. Low-voltage contacts close the moment a hose plug is inserted, signaling the power unit to start automatically, while a built-in 110V receptacle supplies household current to a direct-connect electric hose, so a powered nozzle runs without a separate pigtail cord to a nearby outlet. There is no wall switch to flip; the unit runs only while a hose is plugged in and stops the instant it is pulled. A spring-loaded door reseals the opening when the valve sits idle, keeping the wall tube sealed against dust and holding suction at the other outlets in the house.
The inlet mounts to a standard Hayden SuperValve rough-in plate and connects to standard central vacuum pipe, so it drops into an existing rough-in during a repair or serves as one of the wall outlets on a new installation. Installers reach for the side-opening version specifically in spots where cabinet doors, stair rails, or wall corners leave only inches of clearance to work a hose plug in and out.
Because fitment depends on the rough-in plate and pipe size already in the wall, verify against your system's parts diagram before ordering, particularly when swapping in as a replacement for a different brand's inlet.
