Height Adjustment Lever Spr...

Product details
The height adjustment lever on a #65 holds its setting because a small spring keeps tension on the detent. When that spring weakens, stretches or snaps, the lever no longer stays where you put it. The cleaning height creeps mid-pass, the brushroll rides too high or digs in too deep, and pickup gets noticeably worse over the course of a room.
This is that spring, catalogued as part 012984AY. It fits the #65 and installs at the lever pivot in place of the original, so a machine that has started drifting between height settings gets its firm, positive detent action back.
It is a small part with a lot of leverage over how the vacuum cleans: hold the height and the brushroll meets the pile at the depth the machine was designed for. While the lever assembly is apart, check the detent notches for rounding, since a worn detent will defeat even a new spring.
