Part 404A is the VacShield antimicrobial version of MD's 6-inch upholstery tool with brush strip. MD lists the same tool as 404 in white and 404B in black, so 404A is the treated build of a tool that is otherwise identical. It is meant for finer surfaces than a floor brush touches: drapes, seats, cushions, stairs, couches and car seats.
The bristle bar is removable, which is what makes the tool worth having over a bare nozzle. Leave the bristle strip on to loosen lint and hair from fabric, or take it off and use the plastic end alone when you want suction with nothing dragging across the surface. MD describes VacShield as an antimicrobial coating applied inside and out, including the bristles, and rates it for up to about a year depending on use and wear.
