MD Central Vacuum Lid Latch...

Product details
MD part 867 is a mechanical latch for MD Manufacturing power units installed at an angle rather than straight up and down. On a plumb, level mount, gravity together with the system's own draw keeps the lid pressed onto the canister, but tip the unit even a little and that natural hold weakens fast, especially once the unit has been in service for a few seasons.
Crawl spaces are where this shows up most: tight headroom or an awkward joist run often means the power unit has to sit tilted instead of upright, and on a tilted unit the lid can work loose over months of vibration and use, quietly breaking the seal that keeps suction where it belongs. The latch clamps down mechanically, holding the lid shut no matter what angle the unit sits at, which takes the guesswork out of an install that was never going to sit perfectly level to begin with.
It is a cheap, small part next to the cost of tracking down a slow suction leak, and it belongs on any install where the power unit does not sit plumb. If your unit lives somewhere tilted and the lid has ever felt loose under a tug, part 867 solves it without touching the canister seal itself.
Recheck the latch on a schedule once it is installed, since a tilted mount puts more ongoing strain on it than a level one ever sees. A latch that starts to feel loose is worth swapping before the lid separates from the housing entirely.
