Part 0531/1 is the small interlock switch that tells an ELECTRONIC 370 or an ET-C power head whether it is safe to drive the brush roll. Its plunger reads the position of the mechanism it sits against, and the motor circuit follows that reading without argument: no signal, no agitator.
Interlocks fail in two ways and neither is visible from outside the machine. Worn internal contacts or a plunger that has lost its spring leave the switch permanently open, so a perfectly free roller refuses to turn no matter what else is checked.
