This is the hinged face that swings open for a bag change and shuts again over the bag chamber, and it spends its life being handled, leaned against and carried between rooms. Failures follow a pattern. A hinge point cracks, the panel stops sitting flush, and the door that used to close with one push now needs persuading. Left alone, the crack spreads from the mounting boss until the cover no longer holds its position at all. Neither the appearance nor the practical side of that is worth living with, since this panel is what keeps the bag compartment shut.
