A turbo brush takes its drive from the airflow already moving through the hose, which is why part 442 needs no cord and no electrified hose behind it. MD builds the Surface-Pro to cross from carpet to bare floor without a tool change, and specifies a redesigned turbine, a self-adjusting brush roll and a heavy-duty drive belt inside it.
The rest of what MD publishes is about handling. There is a reactive pivot and swivel neck, four non-marking wheels, a dry wiper blade that helps on smooth surfaces, edge-cleaning at the sides, an air relief slider that bleeds off some seal on deep carpet, and a maintenance door for getting at the roller.
Because suction alone turns that roller, its speed reads out the condition of everything upstream. A roller turning slowly or stalling usually means a restricted hose, a loaded bag or filter, or hair wound around the brush, and the maintenance door is the quickest place to start.
