Airflow through a power head depends on how tightly the sole plate holds the nozzle to the floor. On the SEBO 300 Mechanical that surface is part 50404HGER, the light gray front bottom plate carried as item 114 in the model's exploded drawing, and it is the piece that forms the front lip of the brush roll opening.
Scoring, cupping and hairline splits all do the same thing: they open a gap ahead of the brush roll and let air in where it does no cleaning work. Suction at the bristles falls away even though the motor sounds exactly as it always has, which is why a worn plate is so often missed. Bags get changed, filters get changed, and the machine still leaves fibres in the carpet. Meanwhile a roughened plate edge starts marking hard flooring on every pass. Setting a flat, unbroken plate back under the head closes the gap and puts the airflow over the carpet where it belongs.
Sole plates are cut per model, so match yours against the machine's data plate rather than by eye. While the head is over, check the wear parts around it: brush roller 50470ER with its brush strip 50415, belt 5110, and rear bottom plate 50310HGER.
